RI researchers receive grants<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Two senior scholars from the National Institute of
\nSciences (LIPI) are among six Indonesians who have been granted
\nfunds by the Nippon Foundation Fellowship\/Asian Public
\nIntellectuals (API) to enable them to conduct studies in
\nneighboring countries.<\/p>\n
The LIPI researchers, Mohammad Azzam Manan and Anas Saidi,
\njoin Slamet Trisutomo of Hasanuddin University in the South
\nSulawesi capital of Makassar, as the new Indonesian senior
\nfellows of the foundation.<\/p>\n
Dave Lumenta of a non-governmental organization in East
\nKalimantan, Aprilia Budi Hendridjani of Yogyakarta-based Gadjah
\nMada University and Tatak Prapti Ujiyati of the private Institute
\nfor Economic and Social Research, Education and Information
\n(LP3ES) in Jakarta received grants as junior fellows.<\/p>\n
The six have arranged their own schedules for carrying out
\ntheir studies between June 2002 and May 2003. Each of them
\nreceived US$70,000.<\/p>\n
This is the second year of the API fellowship program in
\nIndonesia. A total of 62 researchers applied for this year's
\nawards.<\/p>\n
The Nippon Foundation's director for international relations
\nand special projects, Tatsuya Tanami, said that the organization
\nprovided $2 million for 60 researchers from 10 Southeast Asian
