        "content": "<p>RI regains ICCA membership<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia has regained its membership in the<br>\nInternational Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) after<br>\npaying 4,212 euros (Rp 37.9 million) in levy arrears, Antara<br>\nreported on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The news agency quoted the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as<br>\nsaying that the government was committed in developing the entire<br>\nspectrum of the tourist industry, including the rapidly growing<br>\nmeeting, incentive, convention, and exhibition (MICE) sector.<\/p>\n<p>It was not immediately clear whether Indonesia's membership<br>\nwas suspended, or it had left the organization during the height<br>\nof the economic crisis in 1997.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry said the ICCA membership is strategic for<br>\nIndonesia to promote its own MICE sector.<\/p>\n<p>The MICE industry, already widely developed in Singapore and<br>\nMalaysia, is beneficial to the tourist industry because it also<br>\npromotes hotels, tours, and shopping.
