        "content": "<p>RI 'not strong enough' to resist pressures<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto told visiting Yemeni<br>\nPresident Ali Abdullah Saleh that Indonesia's economic resilience<br>\nwas not strong enough to resist external pressures.<\/p>\n<p>Soeharto said in their one-hour meeting that he hoped<br>\ndeveloping countries would learn from Indonesia's experience so<br>\nthey would not make the same mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>President Saleh expressed his sympathy to Indonesia, saying he<br>\nbelieved the country would be able to survive the economic<br>\nturbulence.<\/p>\n<p>\"He (Saleh) has a very strong impression that the Indonesian<br>\nsituation is fairly stable, much better than what has been<br>\nreported by the foreign press,\" Minister\/State Secretary<br>\nMoerdiono said after the two leaders' meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Saleh and his 21-strong entourage arrived in Jakarta Thursday<br>\nfor a four-day state visit.<\/p>\n<p>His entourage includes Deputy Prime Minister\/Minister of<br>\nForeign Affairs  Abdulkarim Al-Eryani, chairman of Yemen's<br>\nConsultative Council Abdulaziz Abdul Gani, Minister of Industry<br>\nAhmad Safan'a, and Minister of Planning and Development Mohammad<br>\nBa'jamal.<\/p>\n<p>\"Yemen wants to learn from Indonesia and to cooperate on the<br>\nexploration of oil and natural gas,\" said Moerdiono.<\/p>\n<p>After the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Alatas and<br>\nhis counterpart Al-Eryani signed agreements on trade and the<br>\npromotion and protection of investment.<\/p>\n<p>They also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the<br>\nestablishment of a joint commission for economic, scientific,<br>\ntechnical and commercial cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>Trade between the two countries is still low. Indonesian<br>\nexports to Yemen stood at US$22.443 million in 1996, while<br>\nimports were only $18.81 million.<\/p>\n<p>This morning Saleh and his entourage will visit state-owned<br>\nship builder PT PAL in Surabaya, East Java, before flying to Bali<br>\nfor a night's rest.
