RI, Mongolia to upgrade ties<\/p>\n
MONGOLIA: President Megawati Soekarnoputri and her Mongolian
\ncounterpart Natsagiyn Bagabandi agreed on Saturday to upgrade
\nbilateral ties by establishing an embassy in each other's
\ncountry.<\/p>\n
Although bilateral relations date back to 1956, neither
\ncountry has an embassy in the other. The Indonesian Embassy in
\nRussia serves Mongolia, while the Mongolian Embassy in Malaysia
\ncovers Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Megawati said during the meeting on Saturday that Indonesia's
\nintention to open an embassy in Mongolia had been proposed to the
\ncountry's Prime Minister Nambar Engkhbayar during his visit to
\nJakarta in October last year.<\/p>\n
Indonesia, said Megawati, was eager to step up diplomatic
\nrelations with Mongolia.<\/p>\n
\"There are many things that the two countries need to improve
\non as soon as possible,\" Megawati said, without elaborating.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Mongolian President Natsagiyn said he believed that
\nMegawati's visit to his country would open a new chapter in the
\ntwo countries' bilateral ties.<\/p>\n
A memorandum of understanding on a joint commission for the
\ntwo countries' bilateral cooperation was signed after the
