RI, Malaysia to begin Ambalat talks<\/p>\n

In an attempt to seek a peaceful solution to the Ambalat dispute,
\ntechnical teams from Indonesia and Malaysia will meet in Jakarta
\non Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday.<\/p>\n
Ministry spokesman Marty Natalegawa confirmed that the two-day
\ngathering was a result of a meeting between the two countries'
\nforeign ministers in Jakarta on March 10.<\/p>\n
Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Hassan Wirayuda and his
\nMalaysian counterpart Syed Hamid Albar agreed during the meeting
\nto solve the dispute through negotiation.<\/p>\n
\"In accordance with the decision reached by the two ministers,
\nthe technical teams from Indonesia and Malaysia will meet on
\nMarch 22 and March 23 to discuss the issue of Ambalat,\" Marty
\ntold The Jakarta Post. He did not elaborate.<\/p>\n
\"We are trying to make things as conducive as possible for the
\ntechnical meeting to go ahead,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The ministry earlier said the Indonesian team would consist of
\nexperts in maritime law, geology, hydrology and mapping, among
\nother things.<\/p>\n
\"The Indonesian team has been working hard to on preparing for
\nthe meeting,\" another spokesman, Yuri Thamrin, said over the
\nweekend.<\/p>\n
They, however, refused to identify the chairman and members of
\nIndonesia's negotiating team.<\/p>\n
The two countries have agreed to refer to the 1982 UN
\nConvention on the Law of the Sea in solving the problem.<\/p>",
