SINGAPORE: A 20-year-old Indonesian maid has been jailed for four
\nyears for injecting liquid soap into the feeding tube of a
\nbedridden 85-year-old woman under her care, court officials said
\non Friday.<\/p>\n
Dewi Supriyatin, who was sentenced on Thursday in a Singapore
\ndistrict court, committed the offense in February this year as
\nshe was unhappy and tired of looking after her employer's mother-
\nin-law who can only be fed through a tube.<\/p>\n
She had been looking after Kok Chui Yee for four months, and
\nwhen she could not contain her frustration anymore she decided to
\ninject liquid soap into the old woman's feeding tube, the court
\nwas told.<\/p>\n
\"She had intentionally fed soap to a vulnerable, bedridden 85-
\nyear-old woman for the trivial reason of wanting to leave her
\nemployment,\" deputy public prosecutor Chew Chin Yee was quoted as
\nsaying by the Straits Times newspaper on Friday.<\/p>\n
\"The victim was entirely under her power,\" he said.<\/p>\n
As a result of Dewi's act, Kok suffered from fever and
\nintestinal bleeding.<\/p>\n
Dewi claimed in her defense she had been verbally and
\nphysically abused by her employers. -- AFP<\/p>",
