RI maid jailed for abuse<\/p>\n
HONG KONG: An Indonesian maid was sentenced to three months in
\njail for abusing a baby girl who was under her care, a report
\nsaid on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Ade Sartika-Ningsih, 27, was jailed on Friday for mistreating
\nher employer's four-month old baby by holding her upside down and
\nshaking her repeatedly while her parents were away, said the
\nEnglish language newspaper South China Morning Post.<\/p>\n
The maid's action was captured by a hidden camera installed by
\nthe employers, whose suspicions were aroused by the infant's loss
\nof appetite and the occasional swelling in her face, said the
\nnewspaper.<\/p>\n
Defense lawyer Timmy Yip said the baby's medical report
\nsuggests she didn't suffer any substantial injuries. He added the
\nmaid was paid only HK$2,400 (US$308) a month and was given no
\ndays off, said the newspaper.<\/p>\n
But magistrate Abu Bakar Bin Wahab said the maid should not
\nhave mistreated a baby no matter what her employers had done to
