RI loses veteran banker, top comedian<\/p>\n

Noted comedian Darto Helm passed away at the age of 61 on
\nSaturday, at around 6:30 p.m., after suffering a series of
\nstrokes over the past eight years. He is survived by his wife
\nSutiah and their two daughters, Dian Rudianti and Triana.<\/p>\n
Darto had been admitted to Pelni Hospital on Jl. KS Tubun,
\nWest Jakarta, on Aug. 2, where he was supported by a ventilator
\ndue to his poor condition.<\/p>\n
His body was laid to rest at his house on Jl. Flamboyan No. 14
\nin the Jakarta Military Command housing complex in Kebon Jeruk,
\nWest Jakarta. He will be buried in his family graveyard in
\nPurwokerto, Central Java.<\/p>\n
Born on March 17, 1943, Darto commenced his career in
\nentertainment by joining a ketoprak (traditional Javanese drama)
\ngroup in his hometown.<\/p>\n
In 1973, he met S. Bagyo -- who had established the popular
\nBagyo Cs. comedy group, along with Sol Saleh and S. Diran in 1970
\n-- in Jakarta and joined the group.<\/p>\n
In 1990, Diran quit the group after he had a stroke. A year
\nlater, Rus Pentil replaced Diran in the group.<\/p>\n
Saleh left the group in 1993, the same year that Bagyo died.
\nTwo years later, Rus passed away, followed by Diran in 1996, and
\nSaleh in 2002.<\/p>\n
Darto suffered his first stroke in 1996. In an interview with
\nthe Senior tabloid four years ago, he blamed poor eating habits
\nfor his poor health. He had tried various treatments, including
\nsome alternative ones.<\/p>\n
Sutiah said they had rented out rooms in their house to
\nsurvive. Darto had also sold a musical instrument to pay his
\nmedical bills.<\/p>\n
Seasoned banker and financial analyst I Nyoman Moena, 73, passed
\naway on Friday evening after being treated for acute lung
\nproblems and Parkinson's disease at Medistra Hospital in South
\nJakarta, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
A former director of Bank Indonesia, Moena was known as \"big
\nbrother\" in the banking community for his broad expertise and was
\namong the best bankers in the country.<\/p>\n
Born in Kesiman, Denpasar on Jan. 2, 1931, Moena graduated
\nfrom the School of Economics at the University of Indonesia in
\nthe early 1950s and attended banking courses in London and
\nAmsterdam before joining Bank Indonesia's Yogyakarta branch in
\n1955.<\/p>\n
He rose through the ranks and was appointed a director at the
\ncentral bank's headquarters in Jakarta, a position he filled from
\n1965-1967.<\/p>\n
Moena retired from Bank Indonesia in 1970 and assumed top
\nposts at several private companies, including PT Aditya Consult,
\nwhere he was president from 1970 to 1975, and PT Sucofindo.<\/p>\n
Moena was also a prolific writer on banking issues, even after
\nhe left the central bank, contributing opinion pieces and
\narticles to various media, and he was renowned for supporting the
\ncentral bank's independence.<\/p>\n
Moena was buried on Saturday at Kalibata National Heroes'
\nCemetery in a memorial service attended by family, friends and
\ncolleagues. He is survived by his wife Emalia Sastra Kusuma and
\nthree children: Gde Arin Sunda, Made Doni Waspada and Monalia
\nTrijata.<\/p>",
