        "content": "<p>RI is Canada&apos;s major investment destination<\/p>\n<p>SEMARANG (JP): Canadian direct investments in Indonesia have<br>\nexceeded US$9 billion this year, making Indonesia its largest<br>\ninvestment destination in Southeast Asia, according to the<br>\nCanadian ambassador Kenneth Sunquist.<\/p>\n<p>The ambassador said that most of the investments were in the<br>\nmining and the energy sector through ventures such as Inco&apos;s<br>\nnickel mine in Sulawesi, and energy companies such as Gulf,<br>\nTalisman, Equatorial and Husky.<\/p>\n<p>He added that his country had also invested in financial<br>\nservices through Manulife.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We also have over 50 companies investing their capital in<br>\nmany business areas, including shoe manufacturing, engineering<br>\nand environmental services, electricity generation and oil field<br>\nproducts manufacturing,&quot; Sunquist said in an address he delivered<br>\nat a conference held in Semarang.<\/p>\n<p>The conference, co-sponsored by the Canadian Embassy and the<br>\nCentral Java chapter of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce,<br>\ndiscussed business prospects in the province.<\/p>\n<p>The ambassador said that Canada&apos;s exports to Indonesia, which<br>\nshowed a 30 percent increase last year, were expected to further<br>\nincrease this year.<\/p>\n<p>Canada mainly exports wheat, pulp and paper, chemicals, and<br>\ntelecommunications products to Indonesia, while Indonesia exports<br>\nelectronics products, textiles and clothing, rubber, coffee, wood<br>\nproducts and furniture.<\/p>\n<p>The trade volume between two countries reached about $800<br>\nmillion last year, he added.
