        "content": "<p>RI hosts ASEAN science Olympics<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: Minister of National Education Abdul Malik Fajar<br>\nopened on Saturday the ASEAN mathematics and science Olympics for<br>\nprimary schools, with a call for cooperation among member<br>\ncountries in improving the quality of education.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The event is aimed at seeking a quality standard of basic<br>\neducation, specifically in languages, mathematics and science,&quot;<br>\nMalik said.<\/p>\n<p>He said he expected the scientific event would support student<br>\nexchange programs among ASEAN countries.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of the event&apos;s organizing committee Indra Jati Sidi<br>\nsaid some 60 fifth-year and sixth-year students from nine ASEAN<br>\ncountries were participating in the Olympics, the first of its<br>\nkind.<\/p>\n<p>The students come from Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia,<br>\nLaos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.<br>\nThe other ASEAN member country, Singapore, is not represented.<\/p>\n<p>During the event, which will run until Oct. 23, participants<br>\nwill be vying for three gold medals, five silvers and eight<br>\nbronzes. -- Antara<\/p>",
