RI hailed over trade policies<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The World Trade Organization (WTO) has praised
\nIndonesia's efforts to foster free trade principles.<\/p>\n

\nCooperation of the Ministry of Trade and Industry Hatanto
\nReksodiputro said on Thursday the WTO hailed Indonesia for
\nresisting temptation to back off from its free trade commitment
\ndespite the profound economic crisis.<\/p>\n
Hatanto said the WTO, which periodically evaluates
\ninternational trade policies of both developing and developed
\nnations, considered Indonesia's recent moves to eliminate trade
\nbarriers as encouraging.<\/p>\n
He said the government had recently taken several measures to
\nremove tariff and non-tariff barriers in order to comply with the
\nWTO's free trade pact.<\/p>\n
\"The affirmative appraisal is a sign of Indonesia's commitment
\ntoward promoting free and open international trade conditions,\"
\nHatanto told Antara, after addressing a seminar on \"Impacts of
\nthe WTO sponsored sanitary and phytosanitary agreement on
\nIndonesian agricultural export and import products\".<\/p>\n
He told the seminar audience that domestic exporters needed to
\ntake the sanitary and phytosanitary agreement seriously.<\/p>\n
\"Because of our ignorance, a lot of our agricultural products
\nare rejected at export destination countries.\"<\/p>\n
He said at least 21 product groups, such as the beans and
\nprocessed coconut product groups, were often rejected by
\nAustralian markets for not meeting international standards.<\/p>\n
At least 10 farm and fishery product items were also rejected
