        "content": "<p>Coordinating Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Agus\nHarimurti Yudhoyono said WIM facilities will be installed at strategic\nlocations, including industrial zones and routes linking ports with\nindustrial areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to make sure that before a truck moves from one point to\nanother, for example, from a port to an industrial area, weighing\nequipment is in place,\u201d he said here Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>WIM technology will form part of government efforts to ensure freight\nvehicles comply with prescribed size and weight standards, Yudhoyono\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>The zero-ODOL policy aims to reduce traffic accidents involving\noversized or overloaded vehicles while limiting damage to roads and\nother infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Yudhoyono said ODOL vehicles are a major contributor to road damage,\nforcing the government to allocate substantial funds for repairs and\npreservation.<\/p>\n<p>The government spends more than Rp40 trillion (about US$2.2 billion)\nannually to repair roads damaged by overloaded trucks, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Reducing ODOL vehicles is expected to improve road safety while\nextending the useful life of roads and other transport infrastructure,\nYudhoyono said.<\/p>\n<p>The government is also assessing the potential impact of zero ODOL on\ntransportation costs and the smooth distribution of goods, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Yudhoyono said the government is pursuing a broader transformation of\nland transport, including shifting some freight from roads to\nrailways.<\/p>\n<p>About 80 percent of freight currently moves by road.
