        "content": "<p>Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid said\nMonday that the fraudulent callers often posed as House of\nRepresentatives members or government officials to solicit donations\nfrom victims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere have been many complaints. Some scammers pretend to be\nlawmakers or officials and ask for donations. We have blocked 3,000\nrelated numbers,\u201d she told lawmakers at the Parliament Complex in\nJakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry has also blocked 2,500 numbers suspected of general\nfraud activities, she said.<\/p>\n<p>Another 13,000 numbers were shut down for links to fake online\ninvestments, online gambling, trading scams and other cyber fraud\nschemes.<\/p>\n<p>Hafid said the number of fraudulent phone lines could be higher\nbecause many people still do not report suspicious calls to\nauthorities.<\/p>\n<p>She urged the public to immediately report suspicious numbers so the\ngovernment and telecom operators can suspend or terminate access.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond online fraud, Hafid warned about the growing misuse of\ndeepfake technology, calling it a threat to national digital\nresilience.<\/p>\n<p>She said deepfake-related fraud has become a global issue with\npotentially large financial losses.<\/p>\n<p>According to Hafid, the United States has recorded the world\u2019s\nhighest number of deepfake cases, with losses reaching US$2.19 billion,\nequivalent to about Rp38.7 trillion.<\/p>\n<p>In Indonesia, an anti-scam task force formed with the Financial\nServices Authority recorded online fraud losses of Rp9.1 trillion,\nequivalent to about US$515 million.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Biometric-based SIM registration to limit digital\nfraud: Ministry<\/p>\n<p>Translator: Farhan, Kenzu<\/p>",
