RI, Germany economic forum setup<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): State Minister of Research and Technology B.J.
\nHabibie and Germany's Federal Economic Minister Gunther Rexrodt
\nhave signed a document to inaugurate the Indonesia-Germany
\nEconomy and Technology Forum.<\/p>\n
\"The document we signed just now was written out in Bahasa
\nIndonesia. The English and German versions were signed by
\nPresident Soeharto and German Chancellor Helmut Kohl in Bonn on
\nApril 4,\" Habibie told reporters after signing the document
\nFriday night.<\/p>\n
Soeharto was in Germany early this month for a six-day visit
\nto jointly inaugurate the Hanover Masse 1995, an annual
\nindustrial fair, in which Indonesia became Germany's co-partner,
\nwith German President Roman Herzog.<\/p>\n
Rexrodt, accompanied by about 30 representatives from leading
\nGerman corporations, has been in Indonesia since April 8, for an
\neight-day visit.<\/p>\n
Habibie explained that the forum will meet once a year and
\nwill be held alternately in Indonesia and Germany.<\/p>\n
\"The forum will also involve the private sector of the two
\ncountries. The governments will act only as facilitators,\" the
\nminister, who is also the chairman of the Agency of Technology
\nAssessment and Implementation, said.<\/p>\n
The Economy and Technology Forum will be jointly chaired by
\nHabibie and Rexrodt in their official capacities.<\/p>\n
Rexrodt, on Thursday, told local reporters that several German
\nbusinesses are negotiating with their Indonesian counterparts
\nover several sizable projects in the telecommunication, pharmacy,
\nenergy, aircraft manufacturing and transportation sectors. (hdj)<\/p>",
