RI, Germany build water station<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The Indonesian and German governments have
\nestablished a water quality monitoring station in the East Java
\ncapital of Surabaya to assess the quality of the water in the
\nBerantas river.<\/p>\n
The development, known as the "Mermaid-Brantas" project, is
\nalso aimed at providing recommendations on how to manage the
\nquality of the river's water, the Germany Embassy in Jakarta said
\nin a statement on Friday.<\/p>\n
The embassy said the project, which is part of the Indonesian-
\nGerman joint marine program, was developed by a German
\nconsortium along with Indonesian partners.<\/p>\n
The German consortium that co-developed the facility comprises
\ntwo private sector firms, H. Jena and Hydromod, and two
\nscientific institutions, GKSS Research Center and the Federal
\nMaritime and Hydrographic Agency of Germany.<\/p>\n
On the Indonesian side, the co-developers include the Agency
\nfor the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), the East
\nJava branch of the Environmental Impact Management Agency
\n(Bapedal), state-owned water company Tirta Jasa, and the
\nUniversity of Surabaya.<\/p>\n
