        "content": "<p>RI envoy to chair UN rights body<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia's ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Makarim<br>\nWibisono, was appointed on Monday to chair the UN's top human<br>\nrights body through 2005.<\/p>\n<p>A meeting of diplomats from the 53 member states in the UN<br>\nCommission on Human Rights elected Makarim by acclamation.<\/p>\n<p>The different regional groups in the UN -- in this case Asia<br>\n-- traditionally take their turn every year to chair the<br>\ncommission and nominate a candidate for the post.<\/p>\n<p>The Indonesian envoy will notably head the commission's annual<br>\nsix-week assembly starting on March 14.<\/p>\n<p>The commission is charged with reviewing respect for<br>\ninternational human rights standards around the world and<br>\ndiscussing reported violations in countries.<\/p>\n<p>Makarim told the rights commission that cooperation between<br>\ngovernments was the only way to tackle \"difficult situations\". -- AFP<\/p>",
