RI donates tea to UN<\/p>\n
BOGOR, West Java (JP): The government contributed yesterday
\n150 tons of tea worth US$200,000 to the World Food Program (WFP)
\nof the United Nations.<\/p>\n
An agreement on the contribution was signed here by Secretary-
\ngeneral of the Ministry of Agriculture Soetatwo Hadiwigeno and
\nWFP resident representative Caspar Jan Kamp.<\/p>\n
Kamp said 61.7 tons of the donated tea will be shipped to
\nEgypt and be distributed under four WFP projects, while the
\nremaining 88.3 tons will be shipped to other Middle East
\ncountries early next year.<\/p>\n
Soetatwo said Indonesia's contributions to WFP between 1963
\nand 1995 had cumulatively amounted to $3.56 million worth of
\ncommodities such as tea, coffee and vegetable oil. In the same
\nperiod, WFP food assistance to Indonesia totaled $210 million.<\/p>\n
Indonesia produced 123,000 tons of tea this year, of which
\n100,000 tons were exported to the United States, Pakistan,
\nMalaysia and European countries. (04)<\/p>",
