        "content": "<p>RI cocoa bean output up<\/p>\n<p>PHUKET, Thailand (Reuters): Indonesian cocoa bean production<br>\nis expected to rise to 450,000 metric tons annually by 2005 from<br>\naround 325,000 tons now, a senior official of the Indonesia<br>\nCoffee and Cocoa Research Institute (ICCRI) said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Surip Mawardi, ICCRI associate director, told a cocoa and<br>\nchocolate conference in this southern Thai resort island that<br>\nhigher local prices resulting from the weak rupiah encouraged<br>\ncocoa planters to raise output.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia is now the world's third largest producer of cocoa<br>\nbeans after Ivory Coast and Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>\"Some limited spontaneous new plantings by small holders are<br>\nestimated. They are encouraged by the high local prices of cocoa<br>\nbeans, in particular in Sulawesi, Maluku and Irian, but not in<br>\nJava,\" Mawardi said.<\/p>\n<p>\"The (production) trend is going up.
