RI chess players win in KL<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Four Indonesian chess players won best player
\nawards at the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur which ended Monday.<\/p>\n
They were Grandmaster Edhi Handoko, GM Ruben Gunawan,
\nInternational Master Sebastian Simanjuntak and Novian Siregar.
\nThey returned to Indonesia Tuesday night.<\/p>\n
The Malaysian Open was held to commemorate Malaysia's
\nIndependence Day. Thirty-eight teams from Malaysia and Indonesia
\ntook part.<\/p>\n
Indonesia's Bali Jeff Club Team -- Edhi, Ruben, Sebastian,
\nNovian, A Fahmi and Leonard Gultom -- won the Malaysian Open.<\/p>\n
They collected 29.0 Master Points and won US$2,000.<\/p>\n
Edhi and Ruben played eight games each. Edhi, playing the
\nfirst board, won best player with 7.5 MP. Ruben, playing the
\nsecond board, won best player also with 7.5 MP.<\/p>\n
Sebastian and Novian played nine and seven games respectively.
\nSebastian, took the best player title on the third board with 8.0
\nMP. Novian was nominated best player on the fourth board with
\n7.0 MP.<\/p>\n
Indonesian Chess Federation deputy chairman Cholid Ghozali
\nwelcomed the four players home at the airport.<\/p>\n
He said their success showed that chess was a sport in which
\nplayers could constantly improve, and it could enhance
\nIndonesia's international reputation.<\/p>\n
\"The players have played well and I am proud of them. They
\nhave lifted Indonesia's name in the world of chess,\" Ghozali
