RI-Canada trade promoted<\/p>\n
TORONTO (AFP): Indonesia leads Southeast Asia in trade with
\nCanada and is the region's biggest recipient of Canadian
\ninvestment, International Trade Minister Roy MacLaren said
\nMonday.<\/p>\n
The minister, speaking to a group of businessmen with
\ninterests in Indonesia, said that country was already Canada's
\nlargest market for merchandise exports in the region and was a
\ngrowing market for Canadian exports of services.<\/p>\n
"We expect that two-way merchandise trade will exceed C$1.1
\nbillion (US$814 million) this year," said MacLaren.<\/p>\n
"In addition, our exports in services to Indonesia are an
\nincreasingly important factor in international trade, which will
\nexceed C$100 million (US$74 million) this year.<\/p>\n
MacLaren said greater efforts were being made to attract small
\nand medium-sized enterprises in the two countries to get involved
\nin bilateral trade and investment.<\/p>\n
He said there were "already a number of transactions in the
\npipeline" following the provision in May of a number of private
\nsector lines of credit by Canada's Export Development Corporation
\nand Indonesia's Bank Umum Nasional.<\/p>",
