RI can deal with terrorism: U.S.<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: U.S. Ambassador Ralph L. Boyce expressed confidence
\non Thursday that the Indonesian government was able to handle
\nthose "outsiders entering the country" whose interests may pose a
\nthreat to national security.<\/p>\n
He was speaking after a meeting with Minister of Justice and
\nHuman Rights Yusril Ihza Mahendra at the latter's office.<\/p>\n
The statement was issued after a number of arrests were made
\nof foreigners believed to be allegedly involved in espionage or
\nhaving reported links with the international terrorist group al-
\nQaeda, which is blamed for the terrorist attacks against the U.S.<\/p>\n
Boyce had participated in a round of meetings with leaders of
\nMuslim organizations amid a call made by the ulemas on the
\ngovernment's unclear approach to terrorism, as part of the
\nworldwide campaign led by the U.S.<\/p>\n
Boyce refused to elaborate on the contents of the meeting with
\nYusril, saying that terrorist-related information was also
\nincluded in their discussion "of which (the objective) is mainly
\nto keep the communication line open".<\/p>\n
Later, Yusril said that Boyce was interested with the arrest
\nof Omar al-Faruq, an alleged terrorist apprehended in West Java
\nlast June, who, according to a Time magazine report, was turned
\nover to American authorities. --JP<\/p>",
