RI attracting foreign media<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia is drawing greater international media
\ninterest, judging from the growing number of foreign journalists
\nworking in the country, particularly over the past year.<\/p>\n
The Jakarta Foreign Correspondents' Club (JFCC) said yesterday
\nthat it now has more than 60 members. The most recent additions
\ninclude correspondents from the Cable News Network (CNN), the
\nSouth China Morning Post, the soon to be published Asia Times
\nnewspaper and the financial news service AFX-Asia.<\/p>\n
\"The growth in our membership demonstrates that Indonesia is
\nacquiring a much higher profile on both the regional and the
\nworld stage,\" Reuters' bureau chief John Owen-Davies, the newly
\nappointed JFCC president, said in a statement.<\/p>\n
\"But it is important to have a group like JFCC to encourage
\nthe government to provide more information on its policies to
\noverseas audiences,\" Owen-Davies said.<\/p>\n
At a recent JFCC annual congress, Owen-Davis was appointed
\nchairman of the club, taking over from John McBeth of the Far
\nEastern Economic Review. The new vice presidents are Bernard
\nEstrade of Agence France Presse and Nobuo Fukuda of Asahi Simbun.
\nGreg Earl of the Australian Financial Review is the new
\ntreasurer.<\/p>",
