RI asks UN to follow up WSSD<\/p>\n
NEW YORK: The government has asked United Nations Secretary-
\nGeneral Kofi Annan to follow up on the outcome of the World
\nSummit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg, South
\nAfrica, last September.<\/p>\n
Indonesia's interim permanent representative to the UN Slamet
\nHidayat said on Monday the follow-up should include a schedule of
\nWSSD sessions in the United Nations.<\/p>\n
\"The sessions are expected to coordinate the implementation of
\nthe summit's result and to monitor the realization of partnership
\ncooperation issued by a number of countries and non-governmental
\norganizations at the WSSD's preparatory meeting in Bali and the
\nsummit in Johannesburg,\" Slamet said.<\/p>\n
He said Indonesia had requested that the Sustainable
\nDevelopment Commission monitor the implementation of development
\nprograms at regional, national and international levels.<\/p>\n
Monitoring, according to him, should also be done on more than
\n100 partnerships in sustainable development declared by a number
\nof countries, including Indonesia and other ASEAN member
