        "content": "<p>RI and Kuwait to boost ties<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): President Abdurrahman Wahid (right) is escorted<br>\nby Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah after the two held<br>\ntalks on Tuesday in Kuwait City on improving ties between the two<br>\ncountries.<\/p>\n<p>During his visit, Abdurrahman held talks with the Kuwaiti Emir<br>\nand Prime Minister Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah.<\/p>\n<p>Abdurrahman expressed optimism about Kuwaiti government and<br>\nbusiness community interest in investment in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The Kuwait government as well as its private business circle<br>\nhave pledged a huge gradual investment in Indonesia,&quot; Abdurrahman<br>\nsaid without specifying the type of investments in question.<\/p>\n<p>Abdurrahman said the emir had also agreed to assist Indonesia<br>\nwith a loan scheme, details which would be discussed at a joint<br>\ncommittee meeting next year.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesian Foreign Minister Alwi Shihab, who accompanied the<br>\nPresident, said Kuwaiti officials would visit Jakarta in the near<br>\nfuture to examine several projects funded by the Kuwait<br>\ngovernment through the Kuwait Fund.<\/p>\n<p>When asked whether Kuwaiti officials had queried Abdurrahman&apos;s<br>\nintention to establish trade ties with Israel, Alwi replied that<br>\nthe topic &quot;was not raised at all&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>Abdurrahman, who arrived in Kuwait on Monday evening left on<br>\nTuesday morning for the second stop of his three-nation Middle<br>\nEastern tour.<\/p>\n<p>He arrived in Doha, for a four-hour stopover and met with<br>\nQatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifah Al-Tani.<\/p>\n<p>After the meeting the QNA reported that the two countries<br>\nagreed to raise diplomatic ties to the level of ambassadors.<br>\nTheir respective embassies are currently headed by charges d&apos;<br>\naffairs.<\/p>\n<p>He then left for Amman where he is set to meet on Wednesday<br>\nwith Jordanian King Abdullah and later with Palestinian President<br>\nYasser Arafat.
