Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno has reminded residents to pay
closer attention to the condition of electrical installations in their
residential areas. This statement was made after inspecting the site of
a fire in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (2/6).

Rano noted that the majority of fire cases in Jakarta are triggered
by electrical short circuits. Consequently, the public is urged to
remain vigilant to prevent similar incidents from recurring. “In
Jakarta, on average, fires occur due to electrical short circuits. Based
on our surveys, almost 95 per cent of fires are triggered by electrical
short circuits,” Rano stated in Kebon Kosong.

According to Rano, the fire in the densely populated area of Kebon
Kosong, Kemayoran District, serves as a reminder that fire risks remain
high in crowded residential areas characterised by complex electrical
networks and adjacent buildings.

Preliminary data indicates that the fire impacted approximately 304
buildings and 354 families, affecting a total of 679 individuals. The
affected group includes significant numbers of vulnerable populations,
such as 35 elderly persons, 90 toddlers, 53 primary school children, and
414 adults, including pregnant women.

To ensure the needs of the victims are met, the Jakarta Provincial
Government has prepared temporary evacuation sites at Yusuf Hamka Field.
Various emergency facilities have been provided to support survivors
during the emergency response period. “As you can see, we have prepared
an evacuation post at Yusuf Hamka Field, complete with a health post, a
public kitchen, and even psychological support services for children,”
said Rano.

Additionally, the Jakarta Social Services Department has distributed
various logistical aid, ranging from ready-to-eat meals and mats to
other basic necessities. The provincial government is also providing
food and clothing packages to assist residents who lost their homes due
to the fire.

Rano expressed hope that the Kemayoran fire would serve as a lesson
for all Jakarta residents to increase vigilance regarding potential fire
hazards, particularly those originating from household electrical
installations. “Hopefully, this is the last occurrence. The community
must also maintain their environment. If incidents like this continue to
recur, it will certainly result in losses for us all,” he concluded.
",
