The Post-Disaster Recovery Task Force (Satgas Galapana) of the\nIndonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has visited the location of\nthe earthquake, which reached a maximum magnitude of 7.7, in East Nusa\nTenggara (NTT). Deputy Speaker of the DPR Saan Mustopa is focusing\nattention on meeting basic needs and accelerating the construction of\npermanent housing (huntap) for affected residents.<\/p>\n
This was conveyed by Saan during a coordination meeting in NTT on\nSunday (16\/8\/2026). Also present at the meeting were Deputy Speaker of\nthe DPR Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, Deputy Speaker of the DPR Sari Yuliati,\nDeputy Chair of Commission XII of the DPR Bambang Haryadi, Coordinating\nMinister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, Minister of Home\nAffairs Tito Karnavian, Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo, and\nHead of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Lieutenant\nGeneral TNI Suharyanto.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, there is one important matter regarding the refugees. These\n4,000 refugees are important to handle in terms of their daily needs.\nEarlier there was already a public kitchen. This is also important\nbecause all their basic needs must be met until they can be ensured to\nreturn to their respective homes more quickly \u2014 the sooner the better,\u201d\nsaid Saan during the coordination meeting.<\/p>\n
Saan urged the central government and regional governments to move\nquickly in assessing the damage to affected residents\u2019 homes. In this\nway, the construction of permanent housing can be carried out\nimmediately so that victims can promptly leave the evacuation posts.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is why earlier we discussed which ones suffered light,\nmoderate, or heavy damage, so that gradually from these 4,000 (refugees)\nthe number can slowly decrease,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Saan stressed the need to agree on a deadline by which\ndisaster victims can leave the evacuation posts.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo we must already have a response timeframe for when they can truly\nall return to their respective homes. This is important in my view. But\nwhile they are in the shelters, we must ensure that all their basic\nneeds are met,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
For information, the DPR Galapana Task Force is led by Deputy Speaker\nof the DPR Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and was formed to oversee and support\nbudgetary policy for disaster recovery areas.
