The Deputy for Macro Development Planning at the Ministry of National\nDevelopment Planning (Bappenas), Eka Chandra Buana, has emphasised the\nimportance of policy alignment between the central government and\nregional authorities.<\/p>\n
Eka explained that Bappenas, in planning development towards\nIndonesia becoming a developed nation by 2045 through the \u2018Indonesia\nEmas 2045\u2019 vision, also encompasses development within the regions. He\nrevealed that regional development planning is designed based on the\nunique characteristics of each area, ensuring that planning is tailored\nto the specific needs and objectives of each region.<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, looking at the long term, we have themes per region. Why?\nBecause it is impossible to apply the same policy in Java as we do in\nSumatra or Papua and so on. In Java, for instance, industry is already\nwell-established, accounting for a 30% share. However, in Papua, the\nfocus may not be on industry, but perhaps on education and health,\u201d he\nstated during an exclusive interview with CNBC Indonesia on Wednesday\n(16\/09\/2026).<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is why we cannot allow a \u2018one size fits all\u2019 approach. Policies\nmust remain adjusted to the characteristics of each region,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
He emphasised that the Ministry of National Development Planning\nprovides planning support through the National Director, who creates the\nnational long-term development plan. This is then cascaded down to the\nregions as regional long-term development plans, followed by medium-term\ndevelopment plans that are also distributed to the local levels.<\/p>\n
In addition to planning, Bappenas is also responsible for the\nevaluation and control of established plans through coordination and\ncollaboration with relevant stakeholders.<\/p>\n
Regarding regional planning, Bappenas collaborates closely with the\nMinistry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri). \u201cWe involve the Ministry of Home\nAffairs. For example, we are currently discussing high economic growth.\nIt is impossible to achieve this only at the central level; we must\nconsider the regions. That is why we rely on the Ministry of Home\nAffairs,\u201d Eka explained.<\/p>\n
One concrete action involves reviewing various regional regulations\nor other rules that may hinder regional growth. If such obstacles are\nfound, it is the duty of the Ministry of Home Affairs to address them,\nwhile Bappenas operates at the central level.<\/p>\n
