The number of return passengers for the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holidays at Mengwi Type A Terminal in Badung Regency, Bali, has shown a consistent daily increase of 4-6% since 24 March, rising from 2,767 to 3,152 passengers. Amid the influx of arrivals, the terminal continues to handle significant departures for ongoing trips to Java, with the difference between incoming and outgoing passengers being only around 400. This post-Eid travel phenomenon, facilitated by prepared service scenarios and Ministry of Transportation monitoring until 30 March, highlights the ongoing mobility challenges and adaptations in Indonesia's transportation infrastructure during peak holiday periods.

The number of return passengers for the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holidays
arriving at Mengwi Type A Terminal in Badung Regency, Bali, has
experienced an upward trend. Amid this return flow, Mengwi Terminal is
still crowded with travellers who have just departed for Java Island
after Eid al-Fitr.

“The return flow has started from 24 March to 26 March. So, with that
range, there is likely to be a follow-up return flow precisely on the
27th today, then 28th and 29th March 2026,” said the Head of the Mengwi
Type A Terminal Service Unit, I Dewa Gede Tantara Tesa Putra, on Friday
(27/3/2026).

The increase in passengers at Mengwi Terminal has been recorded
consistently at 4-6% each day since 24 March 2026. The number of
passengers continues to climb from 2,767 people to surpassing 3,152
passengers in the latest data.

Dewa acknowledged that Mengwi Terminal is still serving significant
departure flows or follow-up travels amid the return period. The
difference between incoming and outgoing passengers to outside Bali
through Mengwi Terminal is only about 400 people.

“The departure flow is still busy; we suspect there might be
follow-up travel flows. Indeed, the difference between departures and
arrivals is 400 passengers, so it’s very slim,” he added.

Dewa stated that all service scenarios at Mengwi Terminal have been
prepared, so no issues with fleets or queues have been encountered. The
monitoring post from the Ministry of Transportation is still operating
until the end of this month.

“So far, we have not encountered any issues because we have prepared
the scenarios. For the monitoring post from the Ministry of
Transportation, the last one will be on 30 March 2026,” he added.

According to Dewa, the majority of passengers who have just arrived
at Mengwi Terminal come from East Java and Central Java regions. These
arrivals mostly settle in Badung, Tabanan, up to Denpasar City
areas.

This post-Eid travel phenomenon is acknowledged by several passengers
at Mengwi Terminal. One of them is M Nohir, a resident who has just set
off for Madura to avoid long queues at Gilimanuk Port as occurred some
time ago.

“I just went home to the village because the other day I heard there
was congestion at Gilimanuk; originally planned before Eid al-Fitr but
because of the congestion, it was postponed. Yes, indeed, I deliberately
went home after Eid al-Fitr to have a relaxed journey; the important
thing is to meet the family,” said M Nohir.

Yono, a traveller from Jember, shares the same view. This man, who is
bringing his child and wife, also chose to make the trip today. “The
other day I heard news that Gilimanuk was crowded before Eid al-Fitr. I
postponed it, so I’m departing with my wife and two children today,”
said Yono.
",
