Retired police protest eviction<\/p>\n
SURABAYA: Around 400 retired police officers and their
\nfamilies living at the Medaeng Mobile Brigade police dormitory in
\nWaru, Sidoarjo district, lodged a complaint with city councillors
\non Thursday over what they consider to be their forced eviction
\nby local police authorities.<\/p>\n
Group coordinator Budi Kumandung said police had intimidated
\nand forced 400 families in the housing complex to leave without
\ngiving financial compensation or providing alternative housing.<\/p>\n
\"We refuse to move out because they just provided some trucks
\nto load our belongings onto without considering where we have to
\nhead to,\" Budi said.<\/p>\n
East Java Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comm. Sad Harunantyo,
\nmeanwhile, said that his team would go ahead with its plan to
\nclear the dormitory to make way for junior personnel.<\/p>\n
\"Actually, most of the current residents own other houses but
\nthey rent them out to other people. We will not give them any
\ncompensation because there is no budget for it,\" he said. --JP<\/p>",
