Retailers set up another association<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The country's largest retailers agreed to form
\nan association to enhance cooperation in further developing
\nretail trade at a trendy restaurant in Senayan, Central Jakarta
\nlate last week.<\/p>\n
Under the agreement, H.E. Dachlan was appointed chairman,
\naccompanied by Hari Darmawan and Anton Lukmanto, as the
\nrespective heads of the department store and super market
\nsections.<\/p>\n
M.N. Fauziansyah was appointed head of the small and medium-
\nscale business section and Kustarjono Prodjolalito will lead the
\nhuman resource research and development section.<\/p>\n
\"Such an association is badly needed in order to take
\nadvantage of the lucrative and booming retail business in
\nIndonesia,\" Dachlan said.<\/p>\n
The association stresses the importance of training because
\nthe steadily expanding retail business provides thousands of job
\nopportunities, he continued.<\/p>\n
Hari Darmawan, director of Matahari group, backed him up
\nsaying that the retail trade is labor intensive business.<\/p>\n
\"Matahari group, for example, employs about 16,000 workers in
\nits supermarkets throughout the country,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Other programs deal with department stores and small and
\nmedium-scale business.<\/p>\n
The retailers chose chairman of Golden Truly group
\nSudwikatmono as chief of the association's advisory board,
\nconsisting of Ciputra from Cahaya Department Store, Steve Sondakh
\nof Hero Supermarket, Usman Dja'far from Pasaraya Sarinah Jaya and
\nDavid Makes of Dwima.<\/p>\n
Suryadharma Ali was chosen as the association's secretary
\ngeneral while Kamsul Hasan was appointed deputy secretary general
\nand Haryadi Bakri treasurer.<\/p>\n
Aprindo's short-term goals include the establishment of
