        "content": "<p>A Bank Indonesia retail sales performance survey shows the Real Sales\nIndex (IPR) in April 2026 was recorded at 226.9. This position\nrepresents an 11.6 per cent month-on-month decline compared to March\n2026, which was recorded at 256.7. On an annual basis, the IPR\ncontracted by 3.7 per cent. \u201cOn a monthly basis, retail sales in April\n2026 were recorded contracting by 11.6 per cent, in line with the\nnormalisation of public demand following the National Religious Holiday\nperiod of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri,\u201d said Bank Indonesia\nCommunication Department Executive Director Ramdan Denny Prakoso in a\npress release on Thursday, 11 June 2026. On a monthly basis, the decline\noccurred across the majority of group coverage, with the deepest\ncontractions in the Other Goods Group (-16.6 per cent month-to-month);\nthe Culture and Recreation Goods Group (-12.5 per cent month-to-month);\nand the Food, Beverage, and Tobacco Group (-12.3 per cent\nmonth-to-month). Meanwhile, on an annual basis, groups experiencing\ndeclines included Food, Beverage, and Tobacco (-3.8 per cent\nyear-on-year); Information and Communication Equipment (-26.4 per cent\nyear-on-year); and the Clothing Subgroup (-7.0 per cent year-on-year).\nBased on the same survey, retail sales performance is estimated to\ndecrease to 225 in May 2026. This position represents a 3.2 per cent\nannual contraction and a 0.9 per cent monthly contraction, although it\nis an improvement compared to April. \u201cThis development is influenced by\npublic demand during the National Religious Holiday periods of the\nAscension of Jesus Christ, Eid al-Adha, and Vesak,\u201d said Denny. The\nimprovement is driven by several groups experiencing increases,\nincluding Information and Communication Equipment, which grew 2.2 per\ncent month-to-month, and Other Household Equipment, which grew 2.0 per\ncent month-to-month.<\/p>",
