        "content": "<p>JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Head of Tambora Subdistrict, Pangestu Aji,\nhas responded to the statement by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, who\ndescribed West Jakarta and North Jakarta as the areas with the highest\nnumber of slum neighbourhoods (RW) in the capital.<\/p>\n<p>Pangestu admitted that his area still has many neighbourhoods\nclassified as slums.<\/p>\n<p>Out of the 11 villages in Tambora Subdistrict, eight of them still\nhave slum settlements, ranging from very mild to severe levels.<\/p>\n<p>One of the main parameters for an area being deemed a slum is extreme\npopulation density as well as limited basic infrastructure such as\nsanitation.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, many residents of Tambora still do not have septic\ntanks and dispose of waste directly into connecting drains (PHB).<\/p>\n<p>Pangestu stated that one of the causes of the many slum\nneighbourhoods in Tambora is the economic condition of the community,\nwith around 40 percent belonging to the lower-middle class.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, their lifestyle and living conditions are also\ninfluenced by these economic limitations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can see from their habits, with makeshift buildings, one house\nconsists of several households, and sleeping might be up to three\nshifts, taking turns; there are still people like that,\u201d said\nPangestu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, for example, at night the parents sleep, the children are\noutside the house; this is also what makes brawls prone in Tambora,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n<p>This includes thinking about how to transform slum settlements into\nmore decent places to live.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, it\u2019s already difficult to think about the good things; the\nimportant thing is to think about how today, tomorrow, and the future\nare a bit difficult; how about today, it\u2019s hard just to eat and live,\nlet alone think about other things,\u201d he further said.<\/p>\n<p>In Governor\u2019s Regulation Number 33 of 2024, one of the areas\nclassified as severely slum is RW 03 in Jembatan Besi Village,\nTambora.<\/p>\n<p>This was confirmed by the Head of RW 03 in Jembatan Besi Village,\nDidi Mawardi, that his area holds the status of severe slum category\naccording to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).<\/p>",
