Resort bans controversial Aussie MP from meeting<\/p>\n
PERTH, Australia (AFP): Controversial Australian politician
\nPauline Hanson has been banned from speaking at a fashionable
\nresort here next month because of her views on Asian immigration,
\nThe West Australian reported yesterday.<\/p>\n
Burswood Resort spokesman Bruce Brislin was quoted as saying
\nthat Hanson, an Independent MP from Queensland, would not be
\nallowed to use the resort for a meeting on May 2.<\/p>\n
The management was concerned that would upset corporate
\nclients and visitors, Brislin said.<\/p>\n
The Malaysian casino and hotel operator, Metroplex, has a 20
\npercent stake in Burswood, making it the biggest shareholder.
\nWestern Australian Independent MP Paul Filing has accused
\nBurswood of censoring Hanson because it does not agree with her
\nimmigration views.<\/p>\n
The decision was un-Australian and unacceptable, he said.<\/p>\n
"They have done this because they are worried she might be an
\naffront to their Asian clients," he said.<\/p>\n
"They are more than happy to take money from the local
\ncitizens, but they will not allow people to voice their views."
\nBrislin told the paper: "We have to take into consideration the
\nimpact that such a meeting would have on our visitors and
\ncorporate clients.<\/p>\n
"The last thing we need is disruption to our business and as
\nwe are a business we have to take into consideration our
\ncorporate client base."<\/p>\n
Hanson has been invited by supporters to talk to a series of
\ngatherings in Western Australia early next month.<\/p>\n
The meeting that was to have been held at the Burswood Resort
\nwill now take place at a different venue.<\/p>\n
She has become one of Australia's highest profile politicians
\nsince last year when she outlined her controversial views on
\nimmigration and Aboriginal policy in her maiden speech in
\nParliament.<\/p>",
