        "content": "<p>Resilience council line-up reshuffled<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto has removed Widjojo<br>\nNitisastro from the position of secretary-general of the Economic<br>\nand Monetary Resilience Council, a body set up to oversee the<br>\nimplementation of the country's economic reform program.<\/p>\n<p>The President, through decree No. 47 issued March 19, named<br>\nthe Salim Group's Anthony Salim to succeed Widjojo, who moves to<br>\nthe vice chairman's post on the council.<\/p>\n<p>The council is chaired by Soeharto himself.<\/p>\n<p>The new decree also establishes a special executive body to<br>\ncarry out the council's daily activities.<\/p>\n<p>The executive body, chaired by Coordinating Minister of<br>\nEconomy, Finance and Industry Ginandjar Kartasasmita, is obliged<br>\nto report its activities to the President.<\/p>\n<p>The resilience council was established in January to supervise<br>\nthe implementation of the 50-point economic reform program agreed<br>\nto by Soeharto and International Monetary Fund (IMF) managing<br>\ndirector Michel Camdessus as the condition for an IMF-sponsored<br>\nUS$43 billion rescue package.<\/p>\n<p>\"The secretary-general of this council will have full<br>\nresponsibility and authority to ensure the timely implementation<br>\nof the reform measures agreed to with the IMF,\" Soeharto says in<br>\nhis Jan. 15 letter of intent to Camdessus.<\/p>\n<p>The State Secretariat distributed copies of the President's<br>\ndecree to the media yesterday without explanation.<\/p>\n<p>Widjojo could not be contacted for comment yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony is a member of the Corporate Foreign Debt Settlement<br>\nTeam, set up in January and chaired by former minister of finance<br>\nRadius Prawiro.<\/p>\n<p>The team is assigned to assist Indonesian private enterprises<br>\nto settle a total of $73.96 billion in debts with their overseas<br>\ncreditors.<\/p>\n<p>The council's membership was also partly changed due to the<br>\nestablishment of the new cabinet. Members of the previous council<br>\nincluded ministers who held council positions on an ex-officio<br>\nstatus.<\/p>\n<p>The members of the current council include Ginandjar, Minister<br>\nof Finance Fuad Bawazier, Minister\/State Secretary Saadilah<br>\nMursjid, Minister of Industry and Trade Mohamad \"Bob\" Hasan,<br>\nMinister of Foreign Affairs Ali Alatas, Minister of Empowerment<br>\nof State Enterprises Tanri Abeng, Governor of Bank Indonesia<br>\nSjahril Sabirin, Radius Prawiro and chairman of the Federation of<br>\nDomestic Private Banks Atmosardjono Subowo.
