Residents urged to register land<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): West Jakarta Mayor Sutardjianto yesterday urged
\nresidents of Wijayakusuma subdistrict to process their land deeds
\nat the regional office of the National Land Agency.<\/p>\n
Representatives of 55 Wijayakusuma residents came to the
\nmayoralty to report that the Supreme Court had ruled in their
\nfavor in the seven-year land dispute against Gunawan Kurniadi,
\nwho claimed to be the legitimate owner of the land.<\/p>\n
At the meeting with the mayor, who was accompanied by chairman
\nof the Law and Organization Agency, Roefilan Djafrie, the
\nresidents expressed their gratitude towards the Supreme Court's
\nruling.<\/p>\n
\"The mayor urges us to process the land certificates at the
\nWest Jakarta office of the land agency as soon as possible,\" said
\nSyamsurizal Yahya, a representative of the residents.<\/p>\n
He said that the mayor will order the land agency to help
\nspeed up the processing of the documents.<\/p>\n
The land dispute arose in 1988 when Gunawan Kurniadi, based on
\na local district court decision which stated he was the
\nlegitimate owner, wanted to clear the 44-hectare Wijayakusuma
\nresidential area.<\/p>\n
The residents, however, were strongly against the eviction
\norder and opposed Gunawan through a lengthy trial, which was
\neventually taken to the Supreme Court. (29)<\/p>",
