        "content": "<p>Residents riot over sand mining<\/p>\n<p>SERANG, Banten: Dozens of residents in Lontar subdistrict<br>\nattacked on Friday night the Lontar subdistrict office and dumped<br>\nsome 15 tons of rice in the street.<\/p>\n<p>The rice was given to local residents as compensation by sand<br>\nmining firm PT Jetstar to appease them after earlier<br>\ndemonstrations caused by fears of environmental damage.<\/p>\n<p>The angry residents went on a rampage after discovering that<br>\nthree ships belonging to the company were moored off of Lontar<br>\nbeach in the subdistrict and were there to mine sand from the<br>\narea.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, Henry Hartono, the director of PT Jetstar,<br>\nasserted that the sand mining activities were legal and it would<br>\nnot damage the environment near the beach, claiming that there<br>\nwere no sea species living in the area. -- Antara<\/p>",
