Residents of Pramuka Island and neighbouring islands in the Seribu Islands municipality queued for hours at a subsidised basic commodities bazaar organised by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung during his Ramadhan visit. A discounted package of essentials—including four kilograms of rice, one litre of cooking oil, and one kilogramme of sugar—was sold for 50,000 rupiah, less than half the normal market price of approximately 100,000 rupiah, providing significant relief to island residents who typically face higher living costs.

Jakarta — A number of residents queued to obtain cheap basic
commodities at a bazaar held on Pramuka Island, Seribu Islands District,
Jakarta, on Friday, 13 March 2026.

According to observations by Kompas.com at the location, the cheap
bazaar was held at Pramuka Island District Plaza. Several conical tents
measuring 3x3 metres were arranged in the area.

These tents did not only sell basic commodities, but also various
snacks from micro, small, and medium-sized enterprise (UMKM)
operators.

The queue of residents to obtain basic commodities was quite long.
The majority female residents appeared to queue neatly.

In the bazaar, one package of basic commodities containing four
kilogrammes of rice, one litre of cooking oil, and one kilogramme of
sugar was sold for 50,000 rupiah. This price was significantly cheaper
than the normal price of approximately 100,000 rupiah.

One resident, Idah (40), said she had arrived in the morning to
obtain the cheap basic commodities.

“I have been queuing since 07.00 Western Indonesia Time; if it gets a
bit late in the morning, it becomes full already,” she said.

However, until around 09.00 Western Indonesia Time, the distribution
of basic commodities had not begun because residents were still waiting
for the arrival of Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, who was scheduled to
conduct a Ramadhan visit in the area.

Idah said that the residents queuing were not only from Pramuka
Island, but also from other islands around the Seribu Islands.

She herself came from Panggang Island to obtain the cheap basic
commodities.

“The people taking these are not just from Pramuka Island. There are
people from other islands too,” Idah said.

“I also came in the morning, at half past seven I was already here. I
wanted to see the Governor,” said Iin.

According to her, the cheap commodities bazaar was very helpful to
residents because prices of basic necessities in the island area tended
to be more expensive.

“The prices are much cheaper. On this island, basic commodities have
quite high prices,” Iin said.

She added that cheap bazaars like this were not frequently held on
Pramuka Island and were usually only held at certain times, such as
during Ramadhan.

“Cheap bazaars are rare here; they usually happen during Ramadhan
like this,” Iin said.
",
