        "content": "<p>Residents object to landfill project<\/p>\n<p>BEKASI (JP): Twenty-six families in Bekasi, West Java, have<br>\nobjected to a landfill project which is blocking the roads to and<br>\nfrom their neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>Tampubolon and Situmorang, spokesmen for the families, told<br>\nThe Jakarta Post yesterday that the residents can no longer come<br>\nand go from their neighborhood with ease because three-meter-high<br>\npiles of soil are blocking the roads.<\/p>\n<p>School children have to either climb over the piles of soil or<br>\ntake longer routes to school, they added.<\/p>\n<p>The developer, PT Kemang Pratama, never consulted the families<br>\nabout the noisy and dusty landfilling activities, they said.<\/p>\n<p>The developer was not available for comment yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The Bekasi administration has criticized the project, calling<br>\non the developer to cease the activities pending negotiations<br>\nwith the residents.<\/p>\n<p>Atang Sudjana, head of the Bekasi Regency Information Office,<br>\nsaid that the developer should have informed the residents about<br>\nthe project before commencing it, Kompas reported yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>\"Don't terrorize the residents,\" he said, adding that<br>\nnegotiations with the residents would help to calm down the<br>\nsituation.
