Residents exploited by community chief<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Twelve residents of Pesanggrahan subdistrict in
\nKebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, went to local police over the
\nweekend to report the misuse of their signatures for a land
\nappropriation project.<\/p>\n
The residents, representing 50 Pesanggrahan residents, told
\nthe police on Sunday that the man, identified only as B, used
\ntheir signatures to collect the compensation money for their
\nland, which the government paid to appropriate for a ring road
\nbeing built, Antara reported yesterday.<\/p>\n
"We never signed a statement regarding land appropriation. We
\nwant the case to be dealt with properly and quickly," Padil said.<\/p>\n
The residents later learned that the documents signed by B
\nwere related to the ring road project and not land compensation.<\/p>\n
"The neighborhood chief has cheated us," Padil said,
\nexplaining that B was the one who asked the residents to sign the
\ndocuments.<\/p>\n
Letter<\/p>\n
He said the fraud was unmasked when the residents learned of a
\nletter sent to the mayor, which included a list of 50 signatures
\nand a statement that the residents had approved the compensation
\nmoney set by the mayoralty.<\/p>\n
"None of us have accepted the compensation," Padil told
\nAntara, without mentioning the amount of compensation set by the
\nmayoralty.<\/p>\n
B says he is a member of the presidential palace security
\nguard, a claim few residents believe.<\/p>\n
"We have asked at the presidential palace security guard's
\ndormitory on Jl. Tanah Abang II" and they've never heard of him,
