Residents demand employment<\/p>\n
TANGERANG: Residents of Pakualan village, Serpong district,
\nTangerang, where the proposed Plaza Serpong is under
\nconstruction, have asked the plaza management to allocate 60
\npercent of vacant jobs to local residents once it is in
\noperation, an official said on Friday.<\/p>\n
Village chief Sulaeman said the demand was delivered by
\nresidents who were still jobless. Most of them were senior high
\nschool graduates, but some had university degrees.<\/p>\n
"The management has been hiring many unskilled locals for the
\nconstruction of the plaza, but the village also has some educated
\nworkers," he said, while citing that the villagers met the
\nrequirement to fill positions for sanitary workers, parking
\nattendants, security officers and even managerial posts.<\/p>\n
He revealed that the plaza management had agreed to hire local
\nresidents during a recent meeting with the village officials and
\nresidents.<\/p>\n
"We hope the management will not renege on its promise and
\ntherefore help reduce unemployment problems here," he said.--JP<\/p>",
