Residents demand bright Ramadhan<\/p>\n
BENGKULU, Bengkulu: The provincial legislature urged state
\nelectricity company PLN to minimize power blackouts during the
\nRamadhan fasting month, which begins next week.<\/p>\n
"We ask PLN to curb electricity blackouts in order to enable
\nMuslims perform their religious duties during the fasting month,"
\nchairman of Commission D overseeing infrastructure Azkan Effendi
\nSalam said on Friday.<\/p>\n
Azkan said people could no longer accept PLN's excuses that
\nits limited power supply had resulted in frequent electricity
\nblackouts in the province.<\/p>\n
"If PLN claims to be short of power, why do they always accept
\napplications for new customers, particularly those in the 1,300
\nkilowatt-plus category?" Azkan said.<\/p>\n
PLN has said it has managed to supply only 36 megawatts of the
\n46 megawatts of electricity demanded.<\/p>\n

\nNurdin estimated financial losses suffered by consumers from
\nfrequent electricity blackouts at Rp 750 million this year alone.
