Residents in Serpong, South Tangerang, have criticised the railway\ncrossing for deteriorating rapidly despite repeated repairs. Bambang, a\n60-year-old fruit trader, said the damage at the crossing has persisted\nfor a long time. \u201cIt is often repaired but the durability is not long.\nEven though repaired continuously, it becomes damaged again. Many motorists, both two\u2011wheel and four\u2011wheeled, slow down when\npassing the crossing. Some motorcyclists were even trapped because the\nsurface is slippery and uneven.<\/p>\n
According to Bambang, repairs are usually only carried out when the\ncrossing is severely damaged or in an emergency. \u201cRepairs are done only\nwhen it\u2019s really emergency; when it is packed with stones, that is\nusually only temporary,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
Oblong, a 50-year-old vegetable seller at Serpong Market, said the\nhole at the crossing was quite deep before it was finally filled with\nrocks. \u201cThe hole was deep, but now it has been filled and covered with\nstones,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He noted that repairs at the crossing have been carried out several\ntimes, either resurfacing with asphalt or filling with stones. However,\nhe said these methods are not effective because the damage recurs due to\nconstant train traffic. \u201cNo matter how thick the asphalt is, it will be\ndamaged again because the train also passes. So the damage is the same,\u201d\nhe said. \u201cThere are always people slipping; sometimes they fall. There\nwas even an incident where someone fell, and neighbours helped them\nacross,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Therefore, residents hope for higher-quality repairs that do not\ndeteriorate quickly and pose a danger to drivers. \u201cWe hope it will be\nrepaired with good quality so it\u2019s not easily damaged.
