Residents of Kramat Cipayung in East Jakarta have complained about the deteriorating condition of a local road, which has developed cracks and subsided in places. The road is a key alternative route connecting East Jakarta with Bekasi, West Java, and the damage is causing traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours. Residents hope the road will be repaired quickly, especially with the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holiday.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Some residents have complained about the damage to
the Kramat Cipayung road in Setu sub-district, Cipayung district, East
Jakarta, which has developed cracks and subsided.

One resident, Suprianto (42), said that the damage did not occur
suddenly, but started with small cracks that had been visible before and
continued to widen until the road became cracked and subsided.

“This has been happening for about a week now. At first, there were
cracks here, so slowly the cracks widened, resulting in the current
condition of the road,” he said in Jakarta, Thursday.

According to him, the road is one of the main alternative routes
connecting East Jakarta with Bekasi, West Java. Therefore, the intensity
of vehicles passing through is quite high, especially during rush
hour.

“More or less, the worst is in the morning and afternoon. So, the
activities of workers are hampered because this road is in a position as
a main alternative route to Bekasi and East Jakarta,” explained
Suprianto.

“I don’t know if any officers have come or not, but the district
officials may have already done some monitoring,” said Suprianto.

A similar statement was made by another resident, Ezza (29). Ezza
said that the condition of the cracked and uneven road is slowing down
traffic flow.

Moreover, in the afternoon, the congestion is said to be getting
worse because many vehicles have to reduce speed when passing through
the damaged area.

“In the afternoon during rush hour or in the morning, it’s very busy,
so traffic is congested,” he said.

Although there have been no reports of casualties, he admitted that
the road damage is quite risky for drivers, especially at night when
lighting is limited.

“Fortunately, as far as I know, there have been no victims falling.
Usually, vehicles that are not careful will hit the bottom part of the
vehicle, especially at night. The later it gets, the more congested it
is,” explained Ezza.

“Our hope as the general public is that it will be repaired as soon
as possible because this is a public facility, and Eid al-Fitr is coming
up. Also, this is an alternative road, so it shouldn’t disrupt the
activities of local residents,” said Ezza.
",
