Resettlement sites disputed<\/p>\n
JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: Minister of Transmigration Siswono
\nJudohusodo is in Irian Jaya to investigate the controversy over
\nthe establishment of two resettlement sites, a local official
\nsaid here yesterday.<\/p>\n
The resettlement sites are located in Senggi and Armopa in
\nthe district of Bonggo. Built in the jungle, the choice of
\nlocalities has raised fears that the resettlers would be isolated
\nand unable to sell their agricultural products, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
Armin, the spokesman for the provincial office of the Ministry
\nof Transmigration, said many people had raised fears that the
\nresettlers would eventually abandon the two projects if life
\nproved too rough.<\/p>\n
Senggi is located between Jayapura and Wamena in the
\nJayawijaya regency while Armopa is about 75 kilometers west of
\nJayapura.<\/p>\n
The local administration has built unpaved roads into the
\nsites, making the resettlement areas accessible by bus. (pan)<\/p>",
