Reservoir holds lava flow<\/p>\n
YOGYAKARTA: A reservoir built at the northernmost part of
\nBoyong river is doing what it was intended for, diverting the
\nlava flowing down from Mt. Merapi crater.<\/p>\n
But the dam, located only about seven kilometers from the
\nmountain top, is already spilling over because its capacity is
\nonly 300,000 cubic meters, the Antara news agency reported.<\/p>\n
Two other dams further downstream and two more currently being
\nbuilt, should further neutralize the impact of the flowing lava
\nwhich otherwise could threaten the city of Yogyakarta.<\/p>\n
The Boyong river goes straight to the Code river which cuts
\nYogyakarta in the center.<\/p>\n
The authorities had earlier warned people living along the
\nCode banks to prepare for possible evacuation fearing that there
\ncould be a massive lava flood following the Merapi eruption last
