He has urged the\ngovernment to take the case of research fabrication at the international\nconference seriously. \u2018Alleged medical research fabrication to secure\noverseas travel grants must be taken seriously as it concerns academic\nintegrity and public trust,\u2019 Lalu told journalists on Thursday (28 May\n2026). \u2018The government must conduct a transparent and objective\ninvestigation to establish the facts of the case. If found guilty,\nperpetrators should face strict sanctions, both academically and\nlegally,\u2019 Lalu stated. He called on the government to learn from this\ncase, as it could damage the reputation of other Indonesian researchers.\n\u2018The government must also strengthen oversight and selection of research\ngrants to prevent recurrence and maintain Indonesia\u2019s research\ncredibility,\u2019 Lalu added. The alleged actions were reportedly carried\nout to secure free funding for attending overseas conferences. Higher\nEducation, Science, and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto is\ninvestigating the alleged fabrication scandal.
