Report of deadly rice worries Bekasi<\/p>\n
BEKASI: Residents of Kedung Waringin subdistrict in Bekasi
\nregency are reportedly worried over a report that the area's
\nsubsidized rice has been poisoned, a chairman of a non-
\ngovernmental organization said.<\/p>\n
"They're very worried over the issue of poisoned rice that has
\nbeen distributed to them," Bekasi Youngsters Committee (KAMBEK)
\nChairman Guntur Mulyana told the press here on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
He said that KAMBEK had recently investigated the case and
\nfound the report to be misleading. "Our findings have reassured
\nthem," he said.<\/p>\n
He added that many residents of Kedung Waringin were still
\nconsuming the subsidized rice and they were still feeling
\nhealthy.<\/p>\n
According to him, the report must have been created by a
\ncertain group of irresponsible people.<\/p>\n
Reports claim that people consuming the rice have complained
\nof dizziness and vomiting after eating the subsidized rice.<\/p>\n
But Hartiyah, 40, a resident of Kedung Waringin, admitted that
\nher family had not been poisoned even though they had eaten the
\nsubsidized rice.<\/p>\n
Aisyah, 25, another resident agreed with Hartiyah, saying that
\npeople should not be so easily influenced by the rumors.<\/p>\n
Based on the rice for poor people program, the Bekasi
\nadministration sells cheap rice at Rp 1,000 per kilogram.
