Two houses collapsed into the Ciliwung and six rental units were destroyed in a landslide along Kebon Baru's riverfront in Tebet, South Jakarta. The incident left a 25-metre-long, about 5-metre-wide section of bank eroded, with debris and a narrowed local access; the dwellings were vacant at the time, so there were no casualties. Heavy rain in the preceding days is suspected to have weakened the slope.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Landslides have recurred in a riverside
settlement along the Ciliwung River, precisely on Jalan J, RT 06 RW 10,
Kebon Baru, Tebet, South Jakarta, on Friday 6 March 2026. The incident
caused two houses to slide into the river and destroyed six rental units
at the site. In addition, part of the local access road was severed.

According to Kompas.com’s observations at the scene on Saturday 7
March 2026, the soil on the riverbank has slumped over a stretch of
about 25 metres with a width of around five metres. The red clay cliff
directly facing the Ciliwung River appears to have collapsed
completely.

Fragments of brickwork, roof sheets, wood, plant pots, and PVC pipes
are mingled along the riverbank. At the edge of the cliff, residents’
belongings remain, such as a white washing machine, plant pots, and
cardboard mats lying on the local road.

Yanti, 50, a resident whose house sits immediately beside the
landslide, described the terrifying moments when the ground near her
home suddenly subsided. She said the incident occurred on Friday around
10:30 local time. “Yesterday the children were playing, then there was a
sound like rumbling, and then suddenly the landslide happened and the
house fell,” Yanti told Kompas.com at the scene on Saturday.

The collapsing structures were two houses typically rented out as
lodgings. There are six rental units at the site.

Fortunately, at the time of the incident all the houses were vacant,
so there were no casualties.

“There’s nobody in them, they’re empty now. They were previously
occupied, but there were signs of cracks, so they moved,” Yanti
added.

In addition, rain was reportedly drenching the area since the day
before. The wet ground is believed to have made the slope even more
fragile.

“Yes, it was drizzling at the time. But it had been heavy rain since
morning and all night, with cracks already,” Yanti said.

As a result of the landslide, the local access road has become very
narrow and is no longer passable for motorcycles. Residents passing by
now must walk very carefully because the remaining road runs right along
the edge of the landslide.
",
