Bogor Regency has begun repairing the long-out-of-service escalator at Bojonggede Station, using available parts while waiting for others to arrive. The transport agency hopes it will be working again by mid-December; meanwhile, passengers say the closure has forced them to take a route up to three times longer and left them exhausted.

Bogor Regency Government has begun repairs on the broken escalator on
the skybridge at Bojonggede Station in Bogor, West Java. The work is
being carried out in stages because some spare parts are not yet
available.

“That’s right, repairs began this afternoon,” Bogor Regency Transport
Agency head Bayu Ramawanto told detikcom on Wednesday evening (28
October 2026).

Bayu said the work was proceeding with the parts currently available.
He said the repairs were being carried out as quickly as possible, with
completion expected by mid-December.

“Some of the parts have to be ordered, while others are in stock.
While we wait for the ordered parts, we are starting repairs using the
parts we already have,” Bayu said.

“We hope the repairs will be completed soon. Hopefully, the station
escalator will be back in service by mid-December at the latest,” he
added.

Video received by detikcom showed several workers repairing the
Bojonggede Station escalator, which was still out of service earlier
that day. Parts could be seen on the floor beside the escalator.

Workers were shown dismantling sections of the escalator, removing
components from underneath it and replacing them.

The Bojonggede Station escalator has been out of service for a long
time, forcing train passengers to use the route designated for people
with disabilities. Residents have protested the prolonged lack of
repairs by sending a flower arrangement to the station.

Residents had previously called for the broken escalator at the
station to be repaired promptly. They said they had been forced to walk
a route three times longer, including up an incline.

“I’m from Bojonggede, and I hope they repair the broken escalator
soon. We used to be able to take the lift or escalator straight
upstairs; now we have to walk much further. It would be a great help if
the escalator were fixed,” Jidan said at Bojonggede Station on Wednesday
(28 October).

He said the damage had made the route much longer, tripling the
distance he had to cover.

“It’s definitely much further — three times the distance. With the
escalator, we went straight up. Now, because it’s broken, we have to
walk up an incline and go around three times, so it’s a lot further,” he
added.

The broken escalator has also left residents more tired, as they have
to walk uphill and along the lengthy Bojonggede skybridge corridor.

“Yes, it’s exhausting. We have to go round and round; before, we took
the escalator and then walked across the skybridge to the terminal,”
said Ana, 45.
",
