        "content": "<p>Repair shops to check emission<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The Ministry of Communications will involve auto<br>\nrepair shops in private vehicle emission checks next year,<br>\nfollowing the issuance of a government regulation on the emission<br>\nstandard in September.<\/p>\n<p>\"Accredited auto repair shops will do the checks under the<br>\nsupervision of local administrations,\" Anton Tampubolon, director<br>\nof land transportation at the ministry, was quoted as saying by<br>\nAntara over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of the Association of Auto Repair Shop Owners<br>\n(Asbekindo), A. Yayat Ruhiyat, said the organization has 120<br>\nmembers in six provinces.<\/p>\n<p>\"Each shop needs at least Rp 1 billion (US$107,526) to procure<br>\nthe computerized device to check the brakes, lamps, and gas<br>\nemission of vehicles,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI), 70<br>\npercent of air pollution is contributed by public and private<br>\nvehicles. -- JP<\/p>",
